We are very excited to offer Blow The Scene readers around the world an in-depth interview with Bay Area's Loma Prieta. This four-piece outfit has long been crafting and refining their own definition of modern hardcore music with an amalgamation of sounds that simply knows no boundaries. With musical segments that can pummel the listener with a barrage of blast beats and impenetrable distortion one moment, only to break wide open into a haunting segment of deep melody and emotion that embeds itself deep in the listener's psyche. Many bands have long tried to emulate this fluid approach and combination of sounds, but most fall ...

We recently caught up with New Jersey's rising stars of progressive metal, East of the Wall. The band released their latest LP, The Apologist in October of 2011, which saw rave reviews from critics at NPR, MetalSucks, Decibel, and Metal Reviews, to name just a few. East of the Wall incorporate a dense 4-piece string section complete with three guitarist while simultaneously fusing tech-metal with elements of jazz, rock, progressive, and more niches of metal than you can shake a stick at. Through persistent touring combined with a prolific outpouring of material ...

We are very excited to offer Blow The Scene readers an in-depth interview with Sweden's groundbreaking practitioners of d-beat-infused crust punk- the mighty Wolfbrigade. Having formed in 1995 under the original name of "Wolfpack" before updating years later, Wolfbrigade helped usher in a new generation and interpretation of punk music in Europe and the US.
By combining elements of punk, d-beat, death metal, and hardcore, Wolfbrigade has climbed the ranks and is widely recognized as one of the most important bands in the corpus of extreme music. The band's influence stretches across many niches and it's not uncommon to ...

It is that time of year again, as we say goodbye to 2011 and usher in the new year. Before we slip away into our holiday modes with family and friends, we look back on another year in music. 2011 saw the good, the bad, and the ugly. Today we are just going to focus on the good! We invited a few of our musical peers to contribute year-end lists. Unlike a lot of online music outlets, we chose to invite not only musicians, but also the people who work behind the scenes to make the music community ...

Metal heavyweights Mastodon kicked off week 4 of their nationwide tour featuring Dillinger Escape Plan and Red Fang last Sunday with a performance at DC's 9:30 club. The sold out show saw a line of fans wrap around the block, as this three-piece juggernaut of a tour package had absolutely no weak cogs with 3 bands that no one would have been ok missing.

Alternative Press Tour 2011 Special - Title Fight Interview with Jamie Rhoden & Show Gallery with Four Year Strong, Gallows, Title Fight.
Interview and Pictures by Andy McNeil
In the world of fighting, getting a title shot often takes years of lessons-learned the hard way in a blood and sweat soaked ring. For the four young musicians behind Title Fight, it took the better part of a decade to clobber their way to the top, finally releasing their full length Shed earlier this year on ...

We recently sat down with vocalist/double bassist Jeshua Marshall of the up-and-coming, punk-infused, six-piece, bluesy-folk-rock band Larry and His Flask. What started as a 3-piece punk band formed by brothers Jeshua and Jamin Marshall in 2003, has become a highly-refined and deviously energetic touring juggernaut. The band is currently basking in the glow of rising success with numerous US Tours and recent performances at several Riot Fests alongside scores of punk rock legends, including The Descendents, X, and Hot Water Music.
Larry and His Flask even hipped ...

There are few drummers in the underground music community that have had a more far-reaching impact on heavy music in the last decade than Richmond's Dave Witte. This New Jersey native relocated to Richmond to join the leaders of the American thrash-revival, Municipal Waste, and continues to still session drum and spark multiple off-shoot projects. Witte has drummed with leading and obscure acts alike, including Burnt By The Sun, Discordance Axis, Melt Banana, Human Remains, Birds of Prey and his latest focus, Argonauts. His drumming has influenced a new generation of thrash, heavy-groove, and metal drummers with a relentless approach that embodies speed, precision, and impeccable sense of ...

Originally formed in the Philadelphia area in 1983, The Dead Milkmen solidified their place in American music with their upbeat and energetic punk rock always with satirical and clever lyrical ammunition. Classic examples from their catalogue include "Bitchin Camaro" and "Punk Rock Girl," the latter of which gained major MTV video play in the early 90’s. Media highlights include the band being selected to play Spin Magazine’s first anniversary party in 1988 ( to which a helicopter whisked them from Philly to NYC to play). At the time of their hiatus in 1995, the band completed eight studio albums and numerous national and international tours.

Riot Fest East conquered Philly this past Saturday with a line-up that bridged the divide between old and young fans of punk rock. And to my suprise, the old heads probably out-numbered the youngins, which made for an eclectic mix of music lovers. The day was filled with legendary bands giving amazing performances for almost 12 hours, non-stop. The roster included The Descendents, Dead Milkmen, X, Plow United, Hot Water Music, Naked Raygun, 7 Seconds, Suicide Machines, Samiam, Weston, The Menzingers, Excitebike, Shot Baker, Larry and His Flask, The Holy ...

Very few bands have the opportunity to release 15 studio albums in their career. However, the Brooklyn-based, They Might Be Giants are still plugging away after nearly 30 years of releases. The Johns’ [as called by some of their diehard fans] have managed to go from a duo who’d record music on answering machines, to Grammy Award Winners with a Platinum record. They played to a packed Byham ...

We are very excited to offer Blow The Scene readers around the world our Dropdead interview. With 20 years of DIY, no bullshit, pissed off, personal/political, HC/Thrash, Dropdead are nothing short of American punk institution. With decades of musical proliferation under their belts, you'd be hard pressed to find a band that has stuck to their guns with more persistence than Dropdead.
Dropdead formed officially in January of 1991 in Providence RI. Having met in 1989, and playing together ...

The heartbeat of ID Fest surely was the Skullcandy Main Stage. This sensory extravaganza featured incredible production and was headlined by international house hero, Kaskade.
I can't say enough good things about this stage. The Identity Festival definitely had some snags, but what it lacked in organization it made up for in talent.
Kaskade with his amazing, stupendous, awe inspiring visual display.
Rusko & Steve Aoki with enough energy to power Philly.
& I swear I got a picture of someone's mind literally blowing during the Disco Biscuits closing set.
So without further ado, here is Part 2 of the Identity Festival photographs from the Skull Candy Main stage:

We are very pleased to offer Blow The Scene readers around the world an interview with Ghent, Belgium's Oathbreaker, whose debut LP, Mælstrøm, has fans of metallic punk and d-beat salivating over their intricately crafted, 13-song ripper. Deathwish is calling Mælstrøm "one of the best debut albums we've ever heard," and after spinning the record a few times, our assessment is right on par. Oathbreaker guitarist Lennart, and drummer Ivo, give BTS readers the skinny on the writing and recording processes behind Mælstrøm, equipment picks, favorite bands, insight on LP artwork, life in Ghent Belgium, and much more in this in-depth interview. Enjoy!

If you grew up in Philly, you have a nickname. My distant cousin would sweep the sidewalks around 17th and Mifflin St. daily. As soon as you would pop your head out of one of the row houses, you get hit with a barrage of "A cuz, alright cuz. How you doin cuz? Oh ya cuz? Good cuz." He came to be known as "Cuz" by neighborhood and to this day, I couldn't tell you what his real name is. In Philly, your name is who you are. There was Lina Crow Feet, Crazy Anthony, and The Chicken Man who sold live chickens. Ladies had ...

Mr. Joe Hardcore & Philly Hardcore Shows broke off another incredible line-up at The First Unitarian Church, Saturday, August 6th. NYC's street punk warriors, The Krays, got things moving from the opening chords and offered an impassioned performance for the early-comers. Pittsburgh's The Traditionals took the stage next with their patented blend of working-class, old-school hardcore, follwed by North Carolina's Oi-induced, hardcore-punk rockers Patriot, who kept things moving with their barrage of working-class anthems.
Co-headliners, Murphey's Law put in one of the best performances I've seen from them in a ...

Philly House Shows is back with a special edition, double-feature for your viewing and listening pleasure. I made it out to two house shows over the weekend and shot 10 bands, including local, regional, and nationally touring acts. One of my favorite aspects of the Philly Scene is that there is never a shortage of good house shows going down with bands from all over the globe. On Friday July 30, I hit The Cracker Factory house in Philly's Northern Liberties for a marathon show that showcased bands on several different tours and Cleveland hometown heroes TV Crimes and Dead Words, who were joined by Ohio's Light Years, as they were essentially stranded in Philly due to some ...
