Philly House Shows VII – Weekend Nachos

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012
Weekend Nachos 2012 Tour - East CoastWe usually keep our Philly House Shows feature to once a month, but there are exceptions to every rule. And since we received more angry emails in the months we took off from Philly House Shows than any other time, we figured we could break you off something special in January. Chicago practitioners of sludge-induced grindcore, Weekend Nachos just kicked off a two week East Coast tour that found the band playing a packed West Philly house show last Friday. Weekend Nachos are no strangers to Blow The Scene. With the release of their latest LP Worthless on Relapse ...

Philly House Shows V

Philly House Shows is back with a special edition, double-feature for your viewing and listening pleasure. I made it out to two house shows over the weekend and shot 10 bands, including local, regional, and nationally touring acts. One of my favorite aspects of the Philly Scene is that there is never a shortage of good house shows going down with bands from all over the globe. On Friday July 30, I hit The Cracker Factory house in Philly's Northern Liberties for a marathon show that showcased bands on several different tours and Cleveland hometown heroes TV Crimes and Dead Words, who were joined by Ohio's Light Years, as they were essentially stranded in Philly due to some ...

Philly House Shows pt IV vol 2

Wednesday, June 1st, 2011
Here is the second half of our special edition, double-feature, of notorious column Philly House Shows! We bring you vol 2 of The Blast Beat Be-Header grindcore showcases by local promoter Logan Neubauer. If you missed vol. 1 at International Waters in West Philly, check it out. Vol. 2 was indeed the last show to be held at one of South Philly's favorite basement venues, The Bordello and god damn was it a fitting farewell. Mr. Neubauer's band, a brutal 2-piece grindcore outfit, Backslider kicked things off. Unfortunately we were running on punk-rock-time and showed up about 20 minutes late and rolled in just as they were wrapping up. No worries because we will ...

Here is the first half of a very special addition of Blow The Scene's Philly House Shows! We attended Blast Beat Be-Header Vol.1 and Vol.2 last week as many of the top grindcore and metal bands in the world were stopping through Philly on their way to Maryland Death Fest. Blast Beat Be-Header vol. 1 was hosted at one of our favorite West Philadelphia show houses, International Waters, by none other than local promoter Logan Neubauer, who managed to draw a decent size crowd for a Monday night thrash-off. We'll be sitting down with Logan soon for a local spotlight interview, so keep an eye for that! Philly House Shows pt IV vol. 1 features Gash, ...

Unholy Trinity House – Philly House Shows III

Cop Problem - Unholy Trinity House Show FlyerOur third installment of Philly House Shows takes us to west Philly and into the basement of the Unholy Trinity House. On Sat. April 16th I ventured out into the monsoon to photograph Casket, Life Less, and Cop Problem as part of Cop Problems Demo Release tour. My journalistic integrity forces me to mention that the drummer for Cop Problem is, in fact, BTS editor in chief Joshua. I arrived a few minutes before 6:00 to get a lay of the land and acclimate myself to the surroundings. Turns out that the flyer which said 6 was in ...

Thulsa Doom Reunion TourToday we continue a column here at BTS that we are all really stoked on, Philly House Shows. We introduced this column last month with Philly House Shows pt I - The Shore House, where we had the pleasure of photographing Metal Jacket, Common Alliance, Population Zero, and Fatal at West Philly's staple punk basement. On March 11th, James and I left the warm confines of South Philly and headed northwest to a new vegan eatery/cafe named Nick's Vegan. When these fine folks aren't whippin' up some tasty tofu scramble, they use use their shop as venue ...
