Exclusive: Agalloch, Jex Thoth, Vektor: Philly’s Underground Arts
Oregon’s progressive black metal unit Agalloch, along with Jex Thoth, and Philly’s own Vektor made a quick pass through the Underground Arts venue earlier this year as Agalloch supports their critically acclaimed new release The Serpent and The Sphere on Profound Lore Records. Exclaim.ca hailed the record, giving it a perfect 10/10 stating, “Impossibly vast, the record engages with the very nature and fabric of the universe, both from a scientific and a spiritual sense, and especially where these two concepts meet, burrowing deep into the moments where reason fades into magic.” Dark, meticulously crafted, and atmospherically potent,The Serpent & The Sphere was captured by legendary producer/engineer Billy Anderson at Cloud City Studios in Portland, Oregon (and mixed by Anderson at Everything Hz) and includes a guest appearance by guitarist Nathanaël Larochette of Canadian neofolk trio, Musk Ox, who composed the album’s acoustic interludes.
Madison, WI’s ambient doom metal outfit, Jex Thoth is currently supporting a new release on I Hate Records entitled, Blood Moon Rise. Jex Thoth was recently announced as a featured performer at 2015’s Maryland Deathfest. Delivering their trademark other-worldly metal riffs, Philly’s recent implants by way of Arizona- Vektor fired off a radical performance as they continue to support 2011’s Outer Isolation on Earcache Records.
