NWOBHM mainstays, Grim Reaper along with Ghost Of War, Crypt Sermon, and Brain Candle ripped through Philly’s Kung Fu Necktie for an eclectic mix of extreme talents bridging generations of music enthusiasts. Per usual, BTS‘s Dante Torrieri was on hand to capture the evening’s events in photos for our viewing pleasure.
Grim Reaper, who originally formed in 1979, announced earlier this year that the band would record the first new material since 1987’s Rock You To Hell (RCA). No official date has been set, but singer/frontman Steve Grimmett told Terrorizer.com that “We’ve written ten songs so far, the target is 15 and then we’ll record them and probably choose 12 maybe 13 songs for the album. The daunting task is that we haven’t done a Grim Reaper album since 1987 and you never know what’s gonna transpire out of that really. It’s written in the old style and I don’t know what people’s reaction is going to be to it.”
Philly’s own menacing doom purveyors, Crypt Sermon, who feature members of Infiltrator, Trenchrot, Labyrinthine and Hivelords, simply crushed. This relatively new ensemble saw a large amount of local love and support. While Crypt Sermon continue to support a debut 2013 demo, that band has locked in the release of their first full-length, Out of The Garden, with Dark Descent Records for 2015. Philly’s Brain Candle and Gettysburg’s Ghost Of War rounded this solid bill of metal goodness.
