Antisect, Perdition, Skelptarsis, Soma, Plague Dogs Philly Show
Philadelphia heads got strait primal with the appearance of the UK’s influential hardcore punk titans, Antisect, as the band plowed through The Level Room with Perdition, Skelptarsis, Soma, and Plague Dogs earlier in the month.
With almost a quarter century having passed since Antisect’s initial demise, recent years have seen a definite resurgence of interest in the band. Many now attribute Antisect to having played a pivotal role in the development of the Anarcho and crust punk genres. With lyrical focuses on animal rights and social issues, a propensity for squat-living and touring, Antisect laid a groundwork that would inspire generations of punks in various circles throughout the globe.
Founding member and guitarist, Pete Lyons came out of the woodwork last May with the announcement he had reunited with long-time members, including bassist Laurence Windle, vocalist Tim Andrews, and most recent addition, drummer Joe Burwood.
Fans were hit with another dose of good news, as Antisect announced they would have a new 10″ single on hand, exclusively available for tour dates, featuring previously unreleased 1982 track “4 Minutes Past Midnight” and a re-recorded version of 1985’s “Out From The Void (Part 2.)
As Antisect hit the stage, the crowd erupted like a nuclear volcano, bodies crashed into each other at peak velocity, beer was strewn, and blood was spilled (some intentionally and some inadvertently).
The crowd was a split of old-schoolers and fresh fish, some of whom were obviously born well over a decade following Antisect’s disbandment, but appeared to have done their homework with knowledge of the band and screaming along throughout the night.
The bill was rounded out with an incredibly solid cast of supporting acts that included NYC’s blistering noise-punks, Perdition. Seeing this band is like seeing a tornado in a Lower East Side alley- Absolutely crushing. NYC was also represented by Skelptarsis, who brought an energetic blend of metallic punk to the table. Not surprising this band features members of such mainstays as Dregs and Phobia.
Opening acts included Richmond’s death ‘n’ rollers Soma, and one of our favorite new local bands Plague Dogs. We’ve included links to all of these bands and strongly encourage you to scope these artists for more info and tunes.
Once again, our magnificently talented Senior Staff Photographer, Dante Torrieri of Useless Rebel Imaging was on hand to deliver a massive set of photos for your viewing pleasure.
