South Philly’s latest addition to the emerging venue pool, Boot & Saddle, turned out to be a stellar space to catch ABSU, Organ Donor, and Philly’s own Plague Dogs peel the skin back from adoring faces as the shred quickly ensued. Blow The Scene’s Senior Photographer, Dante Torrieri was on hand to deliver a stellar set of exclusive photos for your viewing pleasure.
If you have followed BTS for any amount of time, then you are already aware of our love for Plague Dogs. Fusing a potent concoction of angry crust ‘n’ roll that pulls equally from the Motörhead and Discharge schools of music- the band has been making waves while slowly but steadily preparing a debut full-length. We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this rowdy 5-piece through 2014 and if you’re just tuning in, consider this your late pass and enjor the streaming tracks below.
Organ Donor proudly represented their Richmond hometown with a fun blend covering multiple degrees of death and thrash metal. No strangers to Philly, the band previously linked up with Philly’s own Coffin Dust for an East Coast run over the summer. Organ Donor is slated to play Blood Of the Wolf Fest in Lexington, KY on Feb 22nd, 2014 with a slew of touring thrash and death metal bands from across the US. Be sure to scope the band’s bandcamp streams below for some ripping jams.
Last and certainly not least, Texas’s ABSU demolished a set of crushing tunes for an elated gathering of crusties and metal heads. This was the second chance in 2013 we had to catch up with ABSU, who despite a 20-year track record of great recordings, embarked on their first ever North American tour last April. If you missed our exclusive ABSU Philly gallery with Pissgrave and Vektor, be sure to scope it now. ABSU continues to support a 20-year catalogue and most recent 2011 release on Candlelight Records, Abzu. You can enjoy a streaming sample below the fold.
Abzu, the band’s seventh studio album, was released October 2011. The album was recorded/mixed by J.T. Longoria (King Diamond/Solitude Aeternus) and features original works by Polish artist Zbigniew Bielak (Ghost, Watain, Entombed, Behemoth, Destroyer 666, Vader, Etc.) Proscriptor commented, “With this record, we appended dirtier elements of psychedelia and fusion. Lyrically, it descends deeper into Enki’s lower world as well the Thelemic Magic(k) System.” He added, “This album is not a ‘natural progression’ from previous releases, but a feat of metaphysical conquest and murkiness.”
In regards to rumors surrounding the next chapter from ABSU, vocalist/drummer Proscriptor states, “We have begun the composition/arrangement process for the next album, suitably titled Apsu, which is the Sumerian-Akkadian spelling of the band moniker. We shall wait until the new album is released before we present any of the new material in a live atmosphere.”
We’ll definitely be keeping an eye through 2014 on any breaking news from the ABSU camp. Until then, enjoy this new exclusive gallery by BTS’s Dante Torrieri (Useless Rebel Imaging)
