Brazilian rock outfit CSS recently ripped through Philadelphia’s Union Transfer venue with special guests IO Echo. Blow The Scene‘s Dante Torrieri and Jon Van Dine were on hand to deliver a breathtaking double-feature gallery for your viewing pleasure below the fold.
Being part of the Nylon Magazine Summer Music Tour, show hands dished out goodie bags at the door complete with glow sticks, water bottles, temporary tattoos and sweet blue sunglasses.
CSS was full of infectious energy, playing a solid mix of older songs including “Art Bitch,” “Lets Make Love,” “Music is My Hot Sex,” and more, with just a few new songs sprinkled in. CSS loves Philly and it showed. Front-woman Lovefoxxx, made it through numerous wardrobe changes while the majority of people kept shakin’ their booties. Younger crowd than we’ve seen for CSS in years past and slightly mellower, but great show none-the-less.
CSS’s latest album Planta was released on June 11th including standouts “Dynamite” featuring friend and guest Hannah Blilie of The Gossip and the album’s breakout single “Hangover”, which was co-written with Tim Armstrong of Rancid.
LA-based industrial pop duo, IO Echo opened the show, starting off slow and gradually building through an engaging crescendo of intensity and musical height. After dates with the likes of indie heavy-hitters Garbage, Bloc Party, and Joy Formidable and having shared the stage with the likes of No Doubt and Nine Inch Nails, IO Echo continue to garner attention from industry peers, press and audiences alike with their live shows of self-described “pastel doom,” dimmed strobe lights and sensu fans. Front woman Ioanna Gika draws from her time spent living in Asia by melding Eastern orchestration, including Koto and Chinese Violin, into the band’s singular style. Their mesmerizing interactive video for “Ministry of Love”, which premiered on Noisey, has taken the Internet by storm, with viewers able to completely customize their own IO Echo experience.
