Today we are very excited to offer Blow The Scene readers around the world an exclusive song premiere from Finland’s heavy handed d-beat practitioners, Unkind– Enjoy the title track “Pelon Juuret” taken from Unkind‘s forthcoming 2nd LP for Relapse Records, which will hit streets in North America on July 9th.
With a relentless d-beat drum attack, screaming note bends, and throat-shredding vocals, this track should melt your speakers played at appropriate volumes. Fans of Martyrdöd, Wolfbrigade, and Tragedy should find a lot to love here. The band has a strong grasp of atmospheric layering and placing meaty distortions on top of one another to create an apocalyptic sound. The authenticity of “Pelon Juuret” is immediately compelling.
Throughout the album, the band dives deeper into their atmospheric experimentation with approaches that channel influence from the like of Mogwai and Explosions In The Sky. This, melded with their unrelenting d-beat assault keeps the music fresh and engaging.
With d-beat punk and Euro-influenced hardcore broadening it’s reach into more and more music circles as of late, it’s nice to see a core group of bands still deliver an authentic sound, and Unkind stands firmly amongst this pack. No half-ass cheater beats to be found here, these boys hold down some unrelenting crust and fire off aggressive hooks at will.
You’ve been warned.
