Philly House Shows XIV brings us back to West Philly’s Golden Tea House for a gnarly bill featuring Chicago’s Like Rats, and local crushers in Grower and Dying.
Like Rats (featuring members of powerviolence enthusiasts Weekend Nachos) bring a mid-paced blend of Celtic Frost-style riffs and raw punk energy to the table that proved to be a perfect fit for this gathering of West Philly’s finest. Like Rats continues to support their latest on A389 Recordings, a 9-song, self-titled, full length that ToxicBreed’sFunHouse described stating, “[Like Rats] manages to maintain it’s raw nature while still having an absolutely colossal and crystal clear sound..A must listen for all those who worship the riff.” We couldn’t say it any better. Stream this beast of an LP now below the fold, then go order it from A389 Recordings.
Philly locals in Grower put in one for the books, and certainly were crowd-pleasers with a poignant set that was both crisp and brutal. Lots of punk rock energy with the chops to back it as Grower continues to support to new split release with Philly’s Kids. You can stream this latest offering below the fold with links for download and purchase.
Last and certainly not least, Philly’s vegan straightedge warriors in Dying set forth a spastic set featuring Thomas Schlatter of Capacities on drums, for what proved to be one of the best sets we’ve ever seen from this 4-piece outfit who continues to get better and better with each performance. Dying has a new split out with New Jersey’s Less Life that should not be missed. Check out a stream below the fold with downloads available at the band’s official website.
