Finnish rock titans HIM recently tore through Philly’s Union Transfer venue along with Anathema as part of the band’s extensive US and South American Spring Tour.
HIM is currently supporting its eighth overall studio release, Tears On Tape, which is available in the US via Razor & Tie, DoubleCross Records in the UK, and Universal throughout the rest of Europe. Critics and fans have embraced the record with The Guardian stating “Tears on Tape harks back to the incisive crowd-pleasing of 2003’s Love Metal, wherein every song boasted an irresistible, radio-friendly chorus, but the riffs still left a bruise or two. Valo’s gift is to make something as gently macabre as Drawn and Quartered sound woozily romantic, his rich baritone permanently teetering on the edge of vulnerability.” Tears On Tape peaked at #15 on the US Billboard Charts and a respectable #2 in Finland. Fans got a hearty plastering of selections highlighting numerous works throughout HIM‘s now 20-plus year career during this particular performance.
The English progressive rockers of Anathema rounded out the evening as the band prepares to release a brand new, tenth studio album, Distant Satellites, via the Kscope label in June. Looking forward to what the band describes as having “..Beauty, intensity, drama, quietude, and extra musical dimensions that the band have previously only hinted at”, Anathema has a number of festival appearances booked throughout 2014 as the release draws nearer.
