Young Widows and Helms Alee recently tag-teamed Philly’s Boot & Saddle venue for an intimate showcase as both bands support current studio efforts.
Louisville’s post-hardcore trio Young Widows released their fourth studio effort, Easy Pain (Temporary Residence), in May which Pitchfork hailed saying, “As members of Breather Resist and Young Widows, bassist Nick Thieneman and singer and guitarist Patterson have played together for a dozen years. It’s surprising and inspiring that, even now, they’re still moving not just ahead but into their own space, too, a singular approach that feels definitively like Young Widows.” Stereogum continued, “That album’s first single/apex, “Kerosene Girl,” might be the best song of 2014, but everything that surrounds it hits nearly as hard.”

Seattle’s Helms Alee are also supporting a 2014 studio effort, Sleepwalking Sailors (Sargent House), which SteelForBrains.com named one of the top 50 releases thus far in 2014 stating, “Sleepwalking Sailors is yet another example of a band at their most daringly successful when comfortable in their own creative skin.”
