We have a few great photo reviews leftover from January that we will be showcasing this week as we celebrate our ever-talented Senior Staff Photographer, Dante Torrieri‘s day of birth today and through the rest of the week!
First off, we have a special set of performances from one of our favorite local stops and anarchist library, LAVA. One of the last remaining, true DIY venues for mixed arts and social causes, this West Philadelphia stronghold played host to a standing-room-only crowd as area-bands Serpent Throne, Hound, and No Stayer welcomed Richmond’s Windhand for solid mix of rock, punk, metal, and stoner riffs.
Windhand are currently supporting the 2012 release of their self-titled debut album that hit streets via Forcefield Records and has created quite an underground buzz. Keeping up a solid writing pace in between tours, the band is already slated to release a new LP in June on the Netherlands’ Burning World Records. With no shortage of authenticity or accessibility, the band’s blend of brooding psychedelia and Sabbath-worship is spreading amongst metal connoisseurs by the day. Punctuated by a live set that is roars like a thunderstorm of stoner madness, this is definitely a band to keep an eye on 2013.
Complemented by a set of Philadelphia’s leading music acts, including Hound, No Stayer (featuring members of Nightfall), you really couldn’t ask for much more.
We’ve got more coming on Serpent Throne this week, so for now, we shift focus to another set of great photos by The Torrieri Machine, complete with listening samples and links for purchase and further investigation of all the guilty parties.
