The 7th annual Summer Slaughter Tour, presented by Indie Merch Store, ESP and Guitar World, ripped through the Philly’s Trocadero venue last month with hometown heroes and headlining act The Dillinger Escape Plan with Animals As Leaders, Periphery, Norma Jean, Cattle Decapitation, The Ocean, Revocation, and more in tow.
Known for a cathartic live show riddled with a history of colorful stage injuries, DEP founding guitarist Ben Weinman broke his wrist just weeks before the July tour kick off. On the eve of an emergency surgery in attempt to save DEP’s summer tour plans, Weinman told MetalSucks “Every night I hurt myself. The adrenaline is so crazy that I don’t ever realize it until long after the show. I’ve broken my neck and split my head open and played the entire set and then went and got x-rays and my head staples. It’s kind of the nature of the beast..I was hoping I hadn’t hurt myself this bad, but unfortunately a few days later after getting x-rays, I realized it’s pretty bad..it’s a bone that doesn’t typically heal very well, which is why I’m going in to get surgery tomorrow for it instead of trying to let it heal naturally. It’s just to try and ensure that it heals as well as possible..”
And as luck would have it, surgery was a success and DEP didn’t miss a beat as they plowed through with a blistering set decorated with a vast array of tracks that spanned the band’s history. We just caught up with DEP bassist Liam Wilson for another round of interview questions. He’ll be taking BTS readers in-depth on the making of the band’s latest LP, One Of Us Is The Killer, out now on Sumerian Recordings/ Party Smasher Inc, so be sure to stop back soon.
So without further ado, we’ll get to this massive photo feature with exclusive shots of Dillinger Escape Plan, Animals As Leaders, Periphery, Norma Jean, Cattle Decapitation, and The Ocean.
