Renowned NJ musician Geoff Rickly (Thursday) and his rotating cast of musical cohorts comprising the now infamous United Nations quintet, recently embarked on a quick East Coast run that saw the introduction of two members from Pianos Become The Teeth. We caught up with the tour at Philadelphia’s Barbary venue where the screamo champs were met with support from Braille, Black Clouds, and Old Lines.
Apart from being sued by the international organization you are probably already familiar with, the DC-area band has made waves amongst underground music fans with a full-length and most-recent E.P., Never Mind The Bombings, Here’s Your Six Figures (Deathwish Inc) which is, of course, a play on the 1977 Sex Pistols‘ album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here’s the Sex Pistols.. Having unofficially featured members such as Ben Koller (Converge), Daryl Palumbo (Glassjaw), and several other notable underground music figures, United Nations have become something of a novelty for those in the know. With a blistering combination of dense riffs, blast-beat-friendly screamo, and poignant vocal attacks by Rickly– This performance found the band fresh and full of life as they defiantly set ablaze stages despite ongoing threats from the intonational behemoth.
For this rare United Nations outing, we offer you a massive double-feature photo gallery by photographer Jonathan Van Dine and BTS’s Joshua T. Cohen.
Enjoy.
