There has to be something in the water in the Northern Cali, as we’ve seen a plethora of intriguing artists emerge and all but takeover the underground scene over the last few years. Ceremony, Deafheaven, Punch, and Loma Prieta – are just a few bands that come to mind currently pushing boundaries and exciting fans.
Add Black Cobra to that list if you are in need of a late pass.
This dynamic duo crashed the scene in 2001 with their patented blend of sludgy-metal-meets-distorted-punk and have held steady with an upward trajectory that has seen the band maintain a prolific outpouring of material on various underground labels. This creative output recently culminated into an artistic zenith with their current release on Southern Lord Recordings, entitled Invernal, which hit streets in October to rave reviews from fans and critics alike.
Black Cobra‘s most recent tour outing with supporting acts Zoroaster and The Body, zipped through Philly’s favorite 21+ venue, Johnny Brenda’s, for night of raucous metal-induced-sludge and punk rock.
Per usual, our insanely gifted photographer, Dante Torrieri of Useless Rebel Imaging, was on hand to capture this show in pictures for your viewing pleasure.
So without further ado..
