Philadelphia concertgoers were treated to stellar and surprisingly intimate performances by four incredible bands, October 8th at Kung Fu Necktie in the Northern Liberties neighborhood. Actually, “stellar” is understatement. If you missed this show, you missed one of the best of 2011. Several of these bands deserve their own archeological records, but we’ll try to keep this brief, as we know you are here for the pictures.
Headliners, Death Ray Vision are comprised of current and former members of metal mainstays Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Overcast, and Dannae. This new project combines elements of metallic hardcore that recaptures the glory days of the guilty parties’ roots. Supported by NYC’s Supertouch, who released legendary tunes on Revelation Records (if you don’t know this band- Go Google them, research, and don’t tell any of your friends you slept on these guys.) We won’t tell on you. The bill was rounded out by Argonauts and local Philly hardcore practitioners, Salvation.
Argonauts roster reads like the Who’s Who of American hardcore. Comprised of drummer Dave Witte (Municipal Waste, Burnt by The Sun, Human Remains, Discordance Axis, Birds of Prey, etc), Dimitri Minakakis (original Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist), John Adubato (Burnt By The Sun) and Brett Bamburg (The Post Man Syndrome), this band delivers everything you would expect from such a prime amalgamation of talent. Stay tuned, because our exclusive Dave Witte interview is coming early next week.
