Legendary Inglewood powerviolence band, Despise You, made history this past Monday with their first ever Philadelphia performance with Magrudergrind, Backslider, and Callous. Rabid fans filled The Barbary in Philly’s Northern Liberties neighborhood and proceed to explode into a frenzy like an angry bees nest, as co-headliners Magrudergrind hit the stage. Magrudergrind played a unrelenting set that spanned the gambit of their colorful release history. No breaks, no intermissions, just pummeling grindcore from one the genre’s top practitioners.
We are fortunate to have recently caught up with Despise You for an exclusive interview with Agoraphobic Nosebleed following the release of the highly acclaimed 12″ split, And On and On…, released earlier this year on Relapse Records. Magrudergrind is one of the few 3-piece acts that can run the crowd over with the intensity of freight train. With a low end crunch that would make even the heaviest hitters in the genre blush, the energy was riot worthy. This show had all of the proper grind elements in place- packed club, violent moshing, and constant crowd surfing, all of which came to head, as Despise You invited the crowd to share the stage with the quintet during the final songs of the evening. Local two-piece grindcore outfit, Backslider, along with Philly’s sludgy doom metalers, Callous, rounded out the bill. We caught up with Magrudergrind drummer Chris Moore (Coke Bust, DOC), for a quick video interview, which is featured below the gallery. We know you are here for the pictures, so with out further ado..
