Creepsylvania’s mutant thrashers, Ghoul, ripped through Philadelphia’s Kung Fu Necktie venue for what proved to be a slime-induced beckoning of the thrash gods with Richmond’s unholy deathcrusters, Occultist, and local death metallers, Casket co-piloting the journey.
It’s hard not to have great evening with this cast of rowdy shredders as Philadelphian metal fans get more than spoiled during the days leading up to the now legendary Maryland Deathfest each year. For those who can’t make the trek down to Baltimore for the epicness that is MDF, regional venues pack in the bands making their way with scores of local showcases that offer intimate and often rare performances from bands all over the world.
Ghoul’s latest full-length, Transmission Zero, hit streets last year via Tankcrimes Records and received overwhelmingly positive reviews. The band’s charismatic, self-aware spin in the often über-serious metal world is a breath of fresh air, complimented with a show that is blast of slimy goodness. Not at all surprising that these shredoholics find time to rip it in bands such as Impaled, Dystopia, Wolves in the Throne Room, Exhumed, and Phobia, when they toss the hoods on the shelf.
