In what was one of the odder trifectas of live musical performance we’ve seen in some time- Mondo Generator along with Scott Wino (The Obsessed, Saint Vitus) and Saviours, brought the thunder to Philly’s Kung Fu Necktie venue. Blow The Scene‘s photo-Jedi, Dante Torrieri was there to capture the show in a massive set of his trademark photos, viewable below the fold.
Despite being billed as the opener, this was unquestionably Wino’s audience. Evidenced by a healthy gathering who came out early to support the renowned musician who looked more than comfortable ripping it solo. Fans reacted favorably to a solid set with a wise selection of tracks punctuating his prolific career.
One of stoner metal’s leading practitioners, Saviours took heed and proceeded to fire off barrage of songs that grabbed many by surprise. Surprise evolved into captivation, which held the passengers steady through the shift in captain and deliciously turbulent waters. The band’s latest, Death’s Procession, should not be missed by fans of the genre.
Headliners, Mondo Generator treated fans to an intimate selection of songs that even found room for a few from bassist Nick Oliveri‘s days with Queen Of The Stone Age. After years of renowned work with Kyuss, Dwarves and the aforementioned QOTSA, Mondo Generator has become Oliveri‘s main project. The band is currently touring in support of 2012’s Hell Comes to Your Heart, which also featured notable appreances by Josh Homme and John Garcia.
