From Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Fight Amp appeared on the scene more than a decade ago and has worked nonstop, building up a thick catalog of releases and touring tirelessly with the likes of Eyehategod and Black Tusk.
The Fight Amp of 2016 is a band that has sculpted its sound into something glorious, and honed its live attack into something lethal. A power trio comprising guitarist/vocalist Mike McGinnis, bassist/vocalist Jon DeHart and drummer Dan Smith, Fight Amp’s current incarnation is a supremely lean, mean machine, melding the muscularity of Helmetand the gruff soulfulness of Nirvana.
It is a marriage of crushing force and radiant melody, creating a tension not unlike that which drives Torche’s sound. As a review on Stereogum put it, “Beneath a hard crust of booming toms and slippery Unsane-esque rhythms lies an efficient, borderline-pop songwriting sensibility.” In the words of Revolver: “Delirious sludge-punk anthems.”
