It’s not very often you get to see major reggae acts like Stephen Marley and Giant Panda Guerrilla Dub Squad on a stage without a barricade and less than 15 yards of dead space in front of it. Yet, this past Sunday July 17th, the two harbingers of positive energy made their mark on one of Philadelphia’s fastest rising venues, The Blockley.
Giant Panda Guerrilla Dub Squad opened the evening, bringing a mildly irritated crowd out of their negativity with ease. It would be tough for anyone to fight off a good mood while James Searl, Chris O’Brian, Dylan Savage, Aaron Lipp, Dan Keller, and Joel Scanlon are laying down their psychedelic roots brand of reggae music.
After Giant Panda, and a short DJ set, a pensive man walked the perimeter of the stage carrying a swinging bowl of incense. The Ghetto Youths, Stephen Marley’s band, took the stage and filled The Blockley with music before introducing the man of the evening. Stephen Robert Nesta “Raggamuffin” Marley made his way on stage to a cheer from the crowd, and the rest is history in pictures below. Enjoy.
