On Thursday, June 16th, our faithful photographer James had the pleasure of seeing Deafheaven, Gholas, Lonesummer and Höllenlärm perform under the El at Kung Fu Necktie on the border of Fishtown in Philly.
Deafheaven is generating a lot of attention amongst aggressive music enthusiasts and put on an intense show full of emotion and ambiance. Hailing from San Francisco, Deafheaven combine compelling elements of several niches of extreme music that range from black metal to post-rock. With a corpus of influences that range from Godspeed You! Black Emperor to Leviathan, the band is quickly garnering the attention of music enthusiasts from several niche circles. Deafheaven are currently supporting their most recent release on Deathwish, Roads to Judah, which is the follow-up to their 2010 self-titled demo that thrust the band into the spotlight of the underground music world.
Upcoming Deafheaven performances include:
06/22: Chicago, IL @ The Albion House
06/24: Cheyenne, WY @ The Crawlspace
06/25: Denver, CO @ Blast-O-Mat
06/26: Las Vegas, NV @ Meatheads
06/27: Los Angeles, CA @ Vacation Vinyl – FREE In store
06/28: Garden Grove, CA @ The Cabin
And without further ado, here is the show in pictures:

Lonesummer – Ambient / Black Metal / Indie band from Philadelphia, PA
Gholas – “Gholas are a four piece band spread across the state of New Jersey. Some of us used to play in bands together and this project came about both as an evolution of those projects, and from a renewed desire to work together. If we had a mission statement it would around being as loud and obnoxious as possible.”
