Rohnert Park, CA’s indefinable practitioners of new-school hardcore punk, Ceremony, recently ripped through The Barbary in Philadelphia with guests Salvation, Watery Love, and Dead People Screaming. Ceremony is still riding high on a wave of momentum from their latest release and Matador Records debut, Zoo, which hit streets in January. With Zoo, fans again found Ceremony abandoning all rules unapologetically and taking a page from more old-school punk rock than the powerviolence tinged material that defined their definitive years. We will not usually cover the same bands in the course of one weekend, or even the same month, but when you have incredible bands like Ceremony and Kromosom playing double-headers in your town, well, you make exceptions.

Philly Punx Picnic this year was a 6 day event that showcased some of the best local and touring punk, hardcore, and metal.
We stopped by FDR park Saturday afternoon for some rad skating and band shots before Philly Punx Picnic continued Sunday night, July 3rd, at The Blockley with an incredible, hard hitting lineup of bands from across the US and Australia.
You can keep up with show organizers Nyssa and Chris at the Official Philly Punx Picnic FB as the festivities come together for 2012.
This show started a little slow, but built up to a tremendous roar.

Bay Area CA’s Ceremony are set to release their forthcoming EP Covers, which will be released August 9th via Bridge Nine Records. The 6-song EP features cover songs from Urban Waste, Pixies, Crisis, Eddie and the Subtitles, Vile and Wire, and were recorded with Dan Rathbun as outtakes during the Rohnert Park recording session. The Covers EP pays homage to a few of the artists that have influenced Ceremony along the way and will continue to inspire them. Hardcore-punk outfit Ceremony, who have been hailed as the "Best Band in Hardcore Punk" by AMP magazine, have been brewing up a new LP and have just announced tour dates.
You can stream Ceremony's new song "Sick" from their forthcoming release Rohnert Park exclusively at Bridge 9 Records. The album hits streets June 8 but you can pre-order at the Bridge 9 Store.
