Creepoid – Yellow Life Giver EP

Saturday, May 8th, 2010
Creepoid Yellow Life Giver Indie/Psychedelic/Acousmatic/Tape Music/Grunge Online: Creepoid Myspace Creepoid Blogspot Philadelphia’s Creepoid recently played an over packed record release show with their hometown hero Kurt Vile and stamped themselves as Philadelphia’s next “constant hit makers”. Creepoid sounds like Mazzy Star lamenting a love affair with the Telescopes, and the result is a rainy day staple. Although Creepoid’s first release is dreamy and understated, recently performed tracks hint towards a more explosive, primal future. Buy this before it is out of print. Creepoid stand out with their first release, but I expect even greater things to erupt in the not so distant future. You Can Purchase Yellow Life Giver E.P. at Big Cartel...

Review: Puerto Rico Flowers – 4

Monday, May 3rd, 2010
4 Puerto Rico Flowers Fan Death Records 2010 darkwave/rock/pop John Sharkey III has distanced himself from his more aggressive former bands (Clockclean Er, Nine Shocks Terror) to produce an addictive debut ep titled 4 from his newest solo project Puerto Rico Flowers. Released on Fan Death Records in January 2010, 4 offers a deliberately minimalist; dark repetitive dark wave record that lends it’s self to be listened to over and over. In fact, when I first purchased 4, my room mate had to ask me to “lay off the Puerto Rico Flowers record” when I played it back to back a week straight. Puerto Rico Flowers is bass driven, synth supported crack. Although 4 draws heavily on dark wave sensibilities, it ...

Old Soul: Part I

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010
p { text-align:justify; } In a musical climate where a chosen few artists get deemed the "next big thing" by major record labels, I often find myself looking to the past for artists that filter their music through their souls rather than through the current mainstream media obsession, the resounding public opinion, or a monolithic record company's bottom line. It seems like every new mainstream artist just tries to mimic the current Beyonce or T-Pain trends, desperately trying to get a piece the of the overnight success pie instead of trying to take the musical experience to the next level. It's all about the mighty dollar. I want you to go back with me to a ...

Maryland Deathfest – THE Summer metal party!

Thursday, March 25th, 2010
MDF If you can only make it to one music festival this summer, The Maryland Deathfest is definitely THE music fest of the year. The lineup is simply utterly fucking ridiculous. Rather than trying to cover ALL of the amazing acts that will be hitting the stage in one news posting, we will be featuring a band a week that is simply a Do NOT miss. We're kicking off our Do Not Miss special with one our all time favorites - FROM ASHES RISE. Formed over 13 years ago in a Nashville Tennessee basement, From Ashes Rise helped to mold a niche d-beat punk sound with bands such as Tragedy and His Hero is Gone that put an American hardcore ...

Deftones Drop 2 New Songs & New Video!

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Deftones have dropped two brand new tracks on their Myspace in anticipation of their 6th studio full-length album Diamond Eyes due to hit streets May 15, 2010.

Craveonline has given Diamond Eyes a perfect 10 out of 10. For a band pushed to the brink by the tragic events surrounding bassist Chi Cheng's departure, it would be within reason for the Deftones to release a transitory, unevenly-footed album in the wake of their indefinitely lost brother. What we're given instead is Diamond Eyes, a brilliant and fiercely colorful collection of tracks that finds the band reaching a new stage of evolution, delivering the most progressive, dynamic work of their careers. "On… bands they admire Daryl: “I think the best heavy band in the world is fucking Converge. Every time I hear them or see them I’m like, ‘Fucking YES.’ Seeing somebody smash you is what makes you step up and get good. Not in a competitive way, but yes, every day I hear something that makes me want to go harder. We were listening to ‘State Of Euphoria’ the other night, the Anthrax record, fucking WAILING out. Dude, it’s one of the best records ever made. You put that record on and I don’t give a fuck if you’re Ulver ...
